Melian Hotel
is envisioned as a contemporary hospitality experience rooted in the spirit of Milos and the Cycladic landscape. Designed as a hotel with the intimacy and atmosphere of a private villa, the project combines the renovation of the existing property with the development of a new building to create a unified architectural dialogue, resulting in a single, seamless destination.
The design approach is shaped by a strong connection to place, combining quiet minimalism with Mediterranean warmth and outdoor living culture. Inspired by the old Cycladic mansions once enriched by objects and furnishings collected through journeys at sea, the interiors seek to create an emotional atmosphere defined by authenticity, craftsmanship, and layered materiality. Carefully curated objects, tactile materials, and evolving vernacular references form spaces that feel personal, intimate, and deeply connected to the island’s identity.
Throughout the project, particular emphasis is placed on the guest experience and the rituals of hospitality. Outdoor spaces, light, and sensory calmness become central design elements, while pergolas, thresholds, and textured surfaces reinterpret traditional Cycladic architectural forms through a contemporary lens. The spa extends this narrative through a luminous and immersive spatial experience inspired by the light of the Cyclades, creating a transition from the brightness of the landscape into a more introspective and restorative atmosphere.
Developed through a close and ongoing dialogue with the hotel owner, the project reflects a shared commitment to architecture as experience — balancing operational functionality with a timeless, human-centered approach to hospitality design.
