Melian Wellness

The Wellness Area at Melian Hotel translates the identity of the project into a more intimate sequence of spaces dedicated to pause, ritual and personal wellbeing.

Drawing from the geological character of Milos, the design explores the relationship between solid and void, light and shadow, enclosure and openness. Soft mineral surfaces, curved geometries and monolithic forms recall the island's volcanic landscape and the carved interiors of its natural formations. Lime plaster, stone and oak establish the material language of the spa. Crafted through bespoke joinery and carefully selected loose furniture, the natural materials reveal their tactile qualities over time, while texture, proportion and light define the atmosphere of the space.

At the centre of the spa, the circular plunge pool becomes the spatial focus of the composition. Surrounding it, a handcrafted marble mosaic floor by Greek artist Petros Moris draws inspiration from the geometric patterns of ancient bathing rituals. Composed of alternating tones of black and grey marble, the radial pattern reinforces the circular geometry of the space, subtly guiding movement while introducing rhythm and depth through the natural variation of the stone. More than an ornamental element, the mosaic anchors the space, establishing a quiet dialogue between craftsmanship, materiality and the timeless culture of bathing.

Movement through the spa is gradual and intuitive. Spaces unfold through carefully framed thresholds, revealing moments of warmth and stillness. The architecture is shaped through subtle transitions, tactile materials and carefully calibrated scale, encouraging a slower perception of space.

Every element is considered as part of a coherent architectural language shared with the rest of the hotel. The interiors avoid excess, favouring clarity, craftsmanship and materials that acquire character over time. Light becomes an architectural material in itself, shaping each space and establishing a continuous dialogue with the Cycladic landscape beyond.

Developed in close collaboration with the hotel owner, the spa reflects a shared understanding of hospitality as an experience defined by place, atmosphere and authenticity.
